Françoise Bajon represented the industry at the “New Job opportunities for Translators and Interpreters – challenges for University Programs and LSPs” conference, which took place at the University of Porto from 25 to 27 March 2015.
Organized by Professor Belinda Maia of the faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, this three-day gathering presented sessions by well-known professors from all over Europe as well as PhD students presenting their work. Elia had been invited by Pf. Maia to represent the industry. A Friday afternoon round table session called “The role of Quality in Language Services: the perspectives of the profession, the market and the universities” was the main opportunity to discuss this topic. In addition to Françoise Bajon, our President, two of our Portuguese members, Lucia Tiago Stankovic (Linguaemundi) and Joachim Alvès (JABA) presented the LSP perspective in a somewhat controversial atmosphere. Also present in the audience were two other Portuguese Elia members: Susana Peixoto (expressao), the Elia Exchange Regional Coordinator for Portugal who teaches financial translation at the university, and Mafalda Cortes Pereira (MULTIvertentes).
